What is the Higher Education Program?
The Higher Education Program is a resource for eligible adult tribal members and has no service area requirement. This program is for Cow Creek Tribal members who are interested in obtaining a 4 year degree from a college or university. This program may also be utilized for those pursuing masters or doctorate degrees on a priority basis.
Students are required to attend full time (12 credits) or part-time, however, the degree must be obtained within 5 years. Students will be responsible for costs of education for any time beyond the 5 years. If I have obtained my bachelors by utilizing the Higher Education Program, can I utilize it again for another degree?
Tribal members can only use the bachelor, masters and doctoral degree programs one time. Once a bachelor’s degree is obtained, funding will only be considered for the masters and doctoral degrees programs.
How do I utilize the Higher Education Program?
To be considered for assistance through the Higher Education Program, Tribal members must submit a completed Higher Education Program Application including a written statement of educational goals and plans, a completed financial aid package, the Official Class Schedule, any high school/GED transcripts, completed college transcripts (if attended previously) as well as a all copy of any financial aid award letters from the College or University.
How much assistance can I receive through the Higher Education Program?
Two (2) year college is $5,000.00 per academic year.
Four (4) year college/university is $7,000.00 per year.
Master’s or doctorate program is $10,000.00 per year.
All awards are based on unmet need and the financial aid award letter.
Why do I have to apply for financial aid if I know already I will not qualify?
To apply for the Higher Education Program all students must apply for financial aid through FAFSA. When the Education Director receives the award from the college/university the unmet need is determined through the financial aid office. If a student does not have an unmet need the Education Director will look at tuition and fees and fund the student not exceeding the cap amount for the program.
