Map 6

Cow Creek Umpqua Traditional Use Area.

Map 6 summarizes the information from maps 4 and 5. It shows the watersheds in the Cow Creek Umpqua homeland (Map 4): The Umpqua River, the North and South Umpqua Rivers, Cow Creek and the Coos Coquille, and Rogue Rivers. Without labeling them, it also shows the five counties that the Cow Creek Umpqua traditional use area lies in (Map 5): Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Curry and Coos Counties.

Also notice the location of the town of Canyonville (also on Maps 4 and 5) about in the center of the homeland, on the South Umpqua River, slightly upstream from its confluence with Cow Creek. Notice that Canyonville also lies just off Interstate 5, I5. Canyonville also is within the area ceded by treaty by the Cow Creeks in 1853. It was the most important town within that area then and remains the most important town within that area today. Today, Canyonville is the site of the Cow Creek Umpqua Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort (Map 8).
