New bingo hall set to open at Seven Feathers Canyonville casino

The Roseburg News-Review March 8, 2006
CANYONVILLE — If bingo built Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort, then bingo is getting its due when a new bingo hall opens to the public Thursday on the casino’s second floor.

The 11,000-square-foot hall, which features seating for 324 people, seven 42-inch plasma flat screen TVs and 180 electronic bingo games, is located on the casino’s upper level and will be accessible by escalator or elevator.

The bingo games will feature a radio frequency that allows players to be paged when they are away from their tables while grabbing a snack or a drink. Players will also be able to enjoy keno while playing bingo.

The former bingo hall will be renovated for 290 slot machines and is scheduled for completion by June.

“Nearly 14 years ago, Seven Feathers started from Cow Creek Indian Bingo and we have a lot to thank our bingo players for,” said Sue Shaffer, tribal chairwoman of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, in a press release.

Seven Feathers was formerly the Cow Creek Bingo Hall, which opened in April 1992 with 35 employees in a 13,000-square-foot hall. It currently employs 914 workers.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony, performed by Shaffer at the new escalator which rises to the second floor, will open the bingo hall at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The escalator — which is 55 feet long — will transport bingo players to and from the bingo hall and rises 17 vertical feet to the second floor.

The escalator was ordered from Germany and took 13 weeks to arrive. Its installation was contracted to Jack Mathis Construction of Roseburg.

The first bingo session begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Information: 839-1182.
