Public Forum – Cow Creek RV resort is inspiring

The Roseburg News-Review September 21, 2006
My wife and I were fortunate to have been invited to the recent grand opening of the Cow Creek’s RV Resort in Canyonville.
But before I tell you what I think, let me lay out my various “conflicts of interest.” I have counted Tribal Chair Sue Shaffer as my good friend for 20 years or more, I am vice chair of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation and I enjoy an occasional game of poker at the casino.

What I saw last Thursday evening at the new RV Resort was nothing short of inspiring. The vision and industry displayed there was epic; talk about moving heaven and earth!

The RV Resort will be to RV’ers from around the country and Canada what Bandon Dunes has become to golfers from throughout the world: absolutely “state of the art.” The dollars that the resort will attract up and down our county will significantly affect our economy.

What’s more, the water impoundment that is part and parcel of the resort and that is still under construction makes unlimited economic growth for the Canyonville area not only possible, but inevitable.

Of course, I enjoyed the incredible food and drink that are always generously offered by the Tribe at any of their functions, but what is much more, I was inspired by their vision and their industry. How fortunate we are to have the Cow Creeks as our neighbors.
