The Cow Creek Indian Foundation and the Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Indian Tribe have distributed more than a half-million dollars in their spring cycle of philanthropy.
Forty-three public agency and charitable organizations were on hand last Thursday to meet the foundation board and receive their grants in ceremonies held at the Seven Feathers Hotel and Resort Conference Center in Canyonville.
Among those receiving grants in Lane County and the surrounding area were: Springfield High School, $20,000 for English as A Second Language classroom equipment. CASA of Oregon, $15,000 for Individual Development Account program. Committed Partners for Youth, $15,000 for Mentor program. Fern Ridge Middle School, $15,000 for Positive Behavior program. Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation, $12,000 for low-income home ownership instruction. Oakland School District, $11,000 for computer upgrades. Shelter Care Inc., $10,000 for homeless children’s program. Jasper Mountain, $8,800 for Therapeutic Photographic project. Oakland Future Farmers of America, $6,900 for greenhouse. Elkton School District, $2,530 for library furniture.
The latest round of awards was the foundation’s ninth since October 1997.
The foundation’s mission is to offer help in youth education, to strengthen youth and family, to positive youth development, and to add to the quality of life for people living in Lane, Douglas, Coos, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Deschutes counties.
