Cow Creek Foundation director, Norm Gershon, to serve on Roseburg Chamber Board

Norm Gershon, vice-chair of the Cow Creek Foundation, has been appointed as a new board member of the Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce.

By a unanimous vote at its April 19 meeting, the Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors appointed Norm Gershon to fill the board position left vacant due to the resignation of Tom Loomis.
Gershon is the President of Umpqua Training & Employment, a private non-profit corporation focused on workforce and economic development. He has been with UT&E since 1978 and has been active in the Roseburg Area Chamber for more than 25 years. He previously served on the Chamber’s Board of Directors from 1983-1985.
Gershon’s current Chamber involvement includes serving as a Monday Noon Forum emcee, facilitating the Chamber’s regular Legislative Conference Calls, serving on the Business Outlook Forum Committee and participating as a One-Stop partner in the Douglas County Regional Workforce Investment Board, a subcommittee of the Chamber’s Economic Development Committee.
Gershon holds a degree in political science, and has been a public school teacher in Thornwood, N.Y., a VISTA Volunteer in Kansas City, a cooperative extension agent in Rockland County, N.Y., and executive director of Educational Opportunity Centers in Louisville and Tacoma. He also served for one term in the Oregon State Legislature.
In addition to his chamber activities, Gershon is a member and past president of the Douglas County Industrial Development Board, vice-president of the Umpqua Community Development Corporation, vice chair of the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation, secretary of Communities for Healthy Forests and former chairman of the board of Southern Oregon Public Television.
