Cow Creeks give $50,000 for business development

The Roseburg News-Review - Nov. 24, 2004

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians will provide $50,000 to the Umpqua Economic Development Partnership to further its efforts to bring new businesses to Douglas County.

The award is part of the tribe's Cow Creek Economic Development and Recovery Fund. The CEDAR Fund was established in 2001 to provide financial support for development efforts of non-tribal regional organizations.

The Umpqua Economic Development Partnership consists of several agencies committed to retaining and creating jobs, assisting businesses with expansion and relocation to Douglas County, and providing continual support for business and industry.

The money from the tribe will help the partnership market the county to the business community, Helga Conrad, the partnership's director, said in a press release.

Two other CEDAR awards, totaling $20,000, will be given out later. The objective of the fund is to enhance the tribe's mission to develop corporate relationships that will benefit the tribe and the local community.
