The City of Roseburg, Oregon and Umpqua Community College receive $150,000 for economic development projects from the Cow Creek Development and Recovery Fund (CEDER).
The city of Roseburg and Umpqua Community College are the recipients of the Cow Creek Community Economic Development and Recovery (CEDAR) Fund.
The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians established the CEDAR Fund to provide direct financial support for development efforts of other regional organizations.
This year the Cow Creeks gave $150,000 -- $75,000 each -- to the city of Roseburg and UCC, in recognition of their focus and partnership in regional development and business attraction, particularly their efforts in securing Dell Computer Corp., a new major community employer.
The award to UCC represents partial funding of the $150,000 committed by the Tribe to UCC for training as an incentive to attract Dell to Douglas County.
The 2001 CEDAR award of $70,000 went to the Umpqua Economic Development Partnership, which the Tribe commends for considerable success in its 2001 efforts.
The Cow Creeks are one of the largest employers in the county, with over 1,000 jobs in over a dozen businesses, and has an annual payroll in excess of $30 million.
In addition to the CEDAR Fund, the Tribe contributes over $1 million annually to other regional nonprofit organizations.
