Receive Honors in the Large Business Category. The Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Greater Douglas United Way and the Douglas County Non-Profit Coalition presented the Businesses Building Community Awards at the Chamber Noon Forum on April 14, 2004. These awards were designed to honor and recognize businesses that inspire and contribute to the high quality of life in our community. The three criteria used to select awardees were:
- direct fund contributions,
- in-kind donations and volunteerism by business owners and
- paid release time for their employees.
Nominations were solicited in the February and April issues of the "Business Perspectives" and through the non-profit network. Candidates for the awards were nominated by an employer, employees or staff of a non-profit organization who wanted to recognize support of businesses. There were three categories of businesses: small, mid-size and large.
The presentation was done in "Academy Award" style with presenters in evening gowns, provided by Memory Makers bridal & Formal Wear, and tuxedos provided by Formally Yours Tuxedos, Inc., with the winners in "the envelope please".
In the Small Business category, nominations were: Douglas County Housing Authority, Roseburg Radiology, Roseburg Book & Stationery, Umpqua Eye Associates, Chateau Event Centre, Shelby Miguelena Construction, Gene's Brake and Alignment, Murray Electric, KPIC-TV (honorable mention) and winner bbg Marketing.
The Mid-Size businesses were: R.E. Noah & Company, Lone Rock Timber, Holiday Inn Express, Fullerton Beverage, Umpqua Dairy, The News-Review (honorable mention) and winner Umpqua Valley Homebuilders Association.
For Large Businesses, the candidates were: FCC Commercial Furniture, Roseburg Forest Products, Umpqua Bank (honorable mention), Mercy Medical Center (honorable mention) and winner Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Tribal Council.
The awards were so successful the sponsors hope to be able to make this an annual Monday Noon Forum event.
