The Federal Department of Housing & Urban Development presents the Cow Creek Tribe of Umpqua Indians an award to honor the Tribe's successful efforts in business, economic development & diversification.

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians recently received an award from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development for the tribe’s successful efforts in business, economic development and diversification.

The award was presented to Cow Creek Chairwoman Sue Shaffer at the annual HUD conference in Chicago recently.

The tribe was recognized primarily for its current efforts and future plans for economic growth and business diversity.

"The tribal vision has always been to enhance this entire region and all communities and people living in the Umpqua Valley," Shaffer said in a prepared statement.

The tribe has been expanding for several years and now employs more than 1,000 people at various South county businesses, including Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort, Seven Feathers Truck & Travel Center, Umpqua Indian Foods, the Valley View and Riverside Motels and the Canyonville Storage Units.
