Seven Feathers to host Salute to Veterans fundraising weekend for WW II Memorial
Seven Feathers Hotel & Casino Resort in Canyonville will host a Salute to World War II weekend June 30-July 2, a fund-raiser for the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The memorial will honor the 16 million American men and women who served in U.S. armed forces during World War II, the more then 400,000 who died and the millions who supported the war effort from home. Groundbreaking is scheduled for Veterans Day weekend in November.
The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians has pledged to raise $1.4 in donations for the memorial.
The salute to veterans will begin Friday, June 30 at 12 noon with the opening of a computer registry search, memorabilia and photo displays, silent auction and functions sponsored by regional businesses, veterans' groups and organizations. A war equipment show will open at 10 a.m.
A reception and cocktail party honoring veterans will be held at 6 p.m.
The "America: Stand Up & Salute" show at 7 and 9 p.m. will be free to veterans.
Events on Saturday, July 1, will kick off with a 5K walk/ run/roll-a-thon at 8 a.m. The International Chili Cook-Off, featuring World War II chili will begin at 9 a.m.
A ladies' lunch/fashion show will be held at 12 noon in the Camas Room. Also at 12 noon the men's golf tournament will tee off at the Myrtle Creek Golf Course and couple's bingo will begin.
A reception and cocktail party at 5 p.m. will be followed by a dinner at 6 p.m. with speakers and celebrity performances and the silent auction wrap-up.
The chili cook-off will continue Sunday at 9 a.m. with entertainment. Performances of "America: Stand Up & Salute" at 2 and 7 p.m. are free to veterans.
