Fund-raiser to benefit World War II monument

The Roseburg News-Review

The Cow Creek Tribe of Umpqua Indians hosts a fund-raising dinner to help raise $1.4 million for the National World War II Memorial.

Sometimes it's generosity, not gluttony, to spend $ 1,000 on meal.

The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians continues efforts to earn $1.4 million toward a World War lI monument to be built in Washington, D.C., by hosting a fund-raising dinner Saturday at the Seven Feathers Hotel and Resort Casino in Canyonville.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the $1,000-a-table dinner, which will feature Hawaiian Sen. Daniel Inouye and former Oregon Gov. and Sen. Mark Hatfield. Maj. Gen. Alex Burgin and Director of the Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs Jon Mangis also plan to attend.

Although all tables are currently spoken for, there is a waiting list for individuals still interested in attending.

The $100 million memorial received presidential approval in 1993 and will be constructed near the Capitol building in Washington D.C.

The Cow Creeks’ contribution will be the largest donation from any Oregon group.
