Annual Veterans ceremony is slated

The South Umpqua Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct their annual Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at the VFW Veterans Memorial in front of City Hall, 250 N. Main Street in Canyonville.
The national anthem will be sung by Mike Rondeau. A prayer of safekeeping from VFW Post 5714 for all active duty men and women in harms way will be offered by Rev. Millie Salt. Then Dirk Kruysman of Winston VFW Post No. 9745 will give a special thank you to World War II veterans. The flags will be presented by the Color Guard of VFW Post 5714.
Speakers will be Sue Shaffer, chairwoman of the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians; Stanley Speaks, N.W. Regional Director, and Rep. Susan Morgan.
"God Bless America" will be sung by Bernadette Fisher. A fly over of U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter jets has been requested. Refreshments will be served courtesy of Seven Feathers Hotel and Casino Resort.
