The Tribe’s Water and Environmental Resources Program Lamprey(WERP) works throughout the Tribe’s Ancestral Territory in the Umpqua and Rogue River Basins. Within our program, we have an Environmental Specialist, a Fisheries Biologist and seasonal technicians. We partner with federal and state agencies, watershed counsels, private landowners, and other non-profit organizations on restoration and enhancement work. Our work includes:

  • Aquatic instream and riparian restoration to benefit native species and watershed ecological processes
  • Wetland identification, delineation, monitoring and conservation
  • Invasive plant species eradicationCoho Salmon
  • Planting of native species
  • Water quality and hydrologic monitoring
  • Fisheries surveys
  • Winter steelhead smolt acclimations to enhance the winter steelhead sport fishery in the South Umpqua River
  • Pacific lamprey research and conservation
