The most important concern of Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Indians is the well-being of its members. Indeed, two of the central documents of the Tribe affirm this desire.

The Cow Creek Constitution states that the Tribe seeks “to promote the social and economic welfare of our people, to secure, protect, and develop our common resources, …and to advance our common welfare.”

The Mission statement also agrees on this, as it asserts that it “upholds … the general welfare of the Tribal membership, and serves to provide for the long term economic needs of the Tribe and its members…”

The sections above are all aspects of the Tribe’s mission to provide for different areas of need for the members of the tribe; after all, one needs shelter, education, mutual assistance, honor for elders, strong leadership, cultural prosperity, and communication to truly thrive in the modern world.
